I am interested at how researchers from this paper formed their thinking along the development of the topic. I am to rephrase to see if it is reasonable.
Firstly, the emphasis is put on 'the role of information and communication'. Conventionally, information flows happen between standard PCs and users sitting in front of them. The authors predict that under one trend of 'computer-supported augmentation of informal communication', the constraint of using old-fashioned PCs will be broken by ubiquitous computing technology. By adding ubiquitous computing devices to the environment in which informal communications happen, we can develop novel types of information flow. One argument for digging into such UbiComp devices is that users "do not pay attention to the stress level, but subconciously feel the 'atmosphere'". Compared to conventional PC, ambient display, coined in this paper, is likely to be a more 'comfortable' way of receiving and processing information. Instead of having one pipe of information flow, we can breathe in the atmosphere of information and absorb those that we desire.
